O Grupo Folclórico de Crianças
The Chilren’s Folklore Dance group, O Grupo Folclórico de Crianças, keep Portuguese Customs and Traditions alive by teaching children an appreciation for Portuguese Culture through traditional music, songs and dance. They perform regularly at the Hudson Portuguese Club.
Their first practice class took place in December of 2006. The class is a unique opportunity for children. It introduces the American child to European differences by providing exposure to a foreign language, traditional style costumes and folkloric dance. At the same time, it’s fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance to the child that has immigrated to America. When their peers embrace their culture, it becomes special. They become special. Camaraderie is developed.
The group debuted in June of 2007, at the Holy Ghost Festival at the Hudson Portuguese Club to an audience of approximately two hundred.
