Where to start is the question!  We have a very busy schedule for the next several weeks.  Surely something for everyone who might be looking for something to do.

February 10th HPC is hosting the ARC 2nd Annual Comedy Night fundraiser for ARC of Marlborough.  This is a very worthwhile cause and there are some big names in local comedy performing.  February 11th we have the Ceia A Favor do Império Mariense which will raising funds for the Ceia Para O Convívio dos Amigos Marienses at which, all the way from Santa Maria,  Ronda da Madrugada will be playing!

February 12th at 4:30 we will be having the Annual General Assembly meeting.

Quim Barreiros is coming to Hudson!!!

HPC is thrilled to announce that Quim Barreiros will be performing at our club – on Sunday, March 3rd at 6:30pm.  His catchy pimba tunes are hugely popular and you can listen to some of his biggest hits on YouTube.

Venha celebrar connosco “Noite de Mascarados 2012″

Mascarados is typically the weekend before Carnaval, this year we are celebrating it on the Friday before Carnaval.  Some call it Portuguese Halloween.  We call it a fun night out.  Think you can guess who is actually in the costume or do you think you can fool everyone so that can’t?  It’s up to you!  Some come in groups and perform skits that are hilarious.  Everyone who would like to is encouraged to come in costume.  Prizes are awarded to the best and most creative costumes.  Children will be able to participate in the costume parade and dance to win a prize.  Join us on Friday, February 17th.  Doors open at 7:30pm.  Tickets are $10 at the door and kids under 12 are free.  If you would like to perform a Carnaval Skit or need further information, please contact Luisa Fontes luisa-fontes@hotmail.com or (978-618-1692)

Carnaval 2012

The Saturday and Sunday following Mascarados is CARNAVAL!!!

HPC will be hosting performing groups from all over New England on Saturday, February 18th from 4pm till 1am and again on Sunday the 19th from 1pm till 11pm.  Most shows will perform on an hourly schedule.  Come and see the costumes and listen to the music that these groups have worked so hard on.  There is no door charge for this event however a hat is passed at the end of each performance to show our appreciation.  Food and drink will be available.  For more information contact:  Lurdes Melo (508) 826-9767.

Pub Night with the Kerry Boys

On February 25th, the Arts Alliance will be hosting their annual evening of Celtic music, stories, laughter and fun featuring The Kerry Boys at HPC for the first time!

St. Patrick’s Day Celebration!!!

HPC will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day this year in a very big way.  Sunday, March 17th at 6:00pm  two Hudson bands will be reuniting after 20 years!  MusicVision and Jovens Acorianos will be performing their hits.  Their music brings back so many memories.  Also performing will be the “Claddagh Kids” an Irish Step Dance group from the Irish Rhythm School in Clinton.  A Portuguese/Irish boiled dinner will be served.  Tickets are $20 for Adults and $10 for children under 12.  Call our ticket booth to reserve your spot.  (978) 310-1929.

In Portugal, “Dia das Amigas” is a day to celebrate the strong bonds of friendship between women.  Friends, both old and new, make a special effort to re-connect; calling or visiting each other and going out for a good time.  This year, HPC will host an evening of dinner and comedy for ladies only.

Cost of show is only $20.00 and includes a buffet dinner and cash bar.
Dinner will be: Salad, Fettuccini Alfredo, Chicken in Garlic Sauce, Desert & Coffee.

Three very talented comedians will be performing at the show.

Headlining the night will be Tom Gilmore.  Tom is a top notch comedian who has performed from Atlantic City to Lake Taho. He has worked with many well known comedians such as Lenny Clarke, Paula Poundstone, Bobcat Goldthwaite, Steve Sweeney, Leslie Neilsen and many others.

The evening will also feature Vermont native E.J. Murphy who has built a reputation as one of the Northeast’s consistently funny comedy acts. His Vermont upbringing helped him form his unique perspective, which blends with an onstage friendliness to make him a hit with all audiences.

Our Host for the evening will be Daniella Capolino. Performing for audiences all over New England, Daniella has quickly made a name for herself on the comedy scene. Engaging the audience with her brains, beauty, and charm, Daniella rocks the stage with a confident, tell-it-like-it-is attitude keeping the audience engaged, laughing, and left wanting more.

CD Fundraiser Dinner

HPC’s “Grupo das Candeias” is holding a dinner dance to raise funds for the production of their first CD.  The dinner will be held on February 4th.  Doors will open at 7:00pm.  The Candeias group has always been a big supporter of the club and we are very proud to have them.  Let’s show our gratitude by supporting them in their effort!

Dinner will be Bolo na Panela and Chiçharro Frito.

Celebrate the New Year in Style!

The 2012 New Years Eve celebration at the Hudson Portuguese Club is going to be a fun filled night that you don’t want to miss.  This formal dinner has been a tradition at the club for decades.  After all of the hard work spent hosting Christmas, New Years Eve is a great opportunity to go out have a great time with your families and friends.  Take a break and let us be your host for this festive evening.  Bring your grandparents, parents, kids and friends – everyone is welcome and is sure to enjoy the evening.

This year we are excited to have the group Passion performing live.  Passion’s members include Fernando Vitorino, Nelson Medeiros, Andreia Medeiros, Jason Melo and Nick Vitorino.  They have a great sound and play a mix of both Portuguese and American dance favorites.  We are fortunate to be able to have a band of this caliber to perform at our celebration.

The evening will include a formal surf & turf dinner complete with appetizers, soup and dessert. Midnight party favors and a champagne toast will precede a serving of a traditional midnight eve tasting consisting of Calde Verde and more.

É dia de São Martinho
comem-se castanhas, prova-se o vinho!

The feast of St. Martin originated in France and quickly spread to be celebrated all over Europe including Portugal (Festa de São Martinho), Germany (Martinstag), Switzerland (Repas du Saint Martin), England (Martinmas), Malta (Jum San Martin), Estonia (Mardipäev) and many other countries around the globe. The feast celebrates St. Martin of Tours and coincides with the end of the harvest and the tasting of the new wine. It was a time to celebrate after the hard work of the harvest and feast before the start of the fasting associtated with the Advent season preceeding Christmas.  In Portugal it is celebrated with meals of Pork, Roasted Chestnuts and new Wine.
We are proud to be able to host the first of many coming Feasts of Saint Martin in Hudson!!  It will be a huge evening with lots of live entertainment including, Banda Jé Jé, Arlindo Andrade, Concertinas from various Cities in the US, Mike da Gaita from Paris, France, and Pedrosinite Carlos Pedrosa and son from Valença, Portugal.

The menu for the evening will be appetizers, Fisherman’s Stew, traditional Portuguese Meat and Bean Stew (Feijoada à Transmontana), two types of Fried Pork (Torresmos Açorianos and Rojões à Moda do Minho) and a Surprise Dessert.  At midnight roasted Chestnuts and Água-pé will be served.

S&F Annual Golf Tournament

A VERY big thank you goes out to everyone who helped organize, advertise and/or participated in the annual S&F Concrete golf tournament to benefit the Hudson Portuguese Club. The tournament which is organized each year by a group led by Lizett Frias was held on September 22nd and (despite the weather) was a great success.  Thanks!!!

LaceUp4aCure

This year the LaceUp4aCure charity fundraiser raised over $9,000 for various charities.  This event takes a lot of planning and it is through the hard work of the organizing team that we are able to host this walk which benefits so many worthwhile causes.  We are proud of the fact that 100% of the money raised goes to the charity specified by the donator.  Special thanks to Juvenalia Chaves, Luisa Fontes, Lurdes Melo, Laura Monteiro for pulling together the team.

October Events

We have a couple of important events coming up in October. If you are looking to get out and have a evening of good food, friends and music we would love to see you down at the club!

Benefit for Carlos Garcia

On October 2nd from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm the club will be hosting a benefit for Carlos Garcia who is battling Stage IV Lung Cancer.  This is a potluck dinner and will include music by DJ Joe Chaves.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could bring a dish to share in the potluck.   If you have anything you would like to donate to be raffled off or if you’d like to volunteer, please let us know.

Amigos de Santo Espírito 2011

The seventh annual Amigos de Santo Espiírito gathering will take place this month. This annual social and cultural event brings together people from all over the US, Portugal and Canada who have ties to the the village of Santo Espiírito on the beautiful Azorean island of Santa Maria. The evening showcases traditional cuisine, music, dancing and culture particular Santo Espiírito. The event is open to everyone and is guaranteed to be a good time! This year we are honored to host Sr. Carlos Henrique Lopes Rodrigues, Presidente daCamara Municiplal de Vila do Porto from Santa Maira.

The meal for the evening will be a buffet consisting of Red bean stew with meat (feijoada), fresh tuna, with white/sweet potatoes and carrots (atum assado ou frito e caçoila de atum.com batatas e cenoura), pork loin sandwiches (bifanas) and fried dough (malasadas). Music will be performed live by HCP’s own Grupo de Nossa Senhora das Candeias and Cantares da Ilha do Sol from East Providence.

Lady of Fátima Feast

September 9th thru September 11th

• Friday, September 9th at 7:00 pm there will be a Fados Dinner. The performers are Celia Maria & Jorge Ramos with musical accompaniment by Jose Silva, Viriato Ferreira and Pedro Pimentel. • Saturday, September 10th at 5:30pm a Mass celebrating The Lady of Fatima at St. Michael’s Church will be followed by a solemn procession to the club.  Everyone is welcome it participate in the procession.  After the procession Eratoxica will be performing live outside on the terrace at 8:00pm.
• Sunday, September 11th will start at 10:30am with an outdoor Mass at the HPC chapel at followed by a 12:00pm lunch buffet.  Tickets ($12 donation) for the lunch buffet must be purchased in advance.  In the afternoon, there will be fun activities for children, folklore dance performances by the Milford Portuguese Club’s folkloric dance group and HPC’s own Grupo Folclórico de Crianças.   Musical performances will also include Mauricio Morais, Geana Teodoro and HPC’s Nossa Senhora das Candeias.

S&F Annual Golf Tournament

Thursday, September 22nd

The 4th Annual S&F Concrete Golf Tournament with proceeds to benefit the Hudson Portuguese Club will be held on September 22nd, 2011 at Juniper Hill Golf Course in Northborough, Massachusetts.  Lizett Frias does a great job organizing this event each year and it is a very big fundraiser for the club so we ask every member who golfs to consider participating in this fun event.  Registration is due by September 1st.  Click Here for details or to order your tickets or sponsorship package online.

This coming weekend, June 18th and 19th, is the 2011 Império Micaelense.
The 2010 Império was a great success with many many people taking part in the festivities.
